About the Multiple Sclerosis Service League:
The Multiple Sclerosis Service League is an independent non-profit
human service organization [501(c)3] providing support services
for people affected by multiple sclerosis who live in Black
Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Grundy and Tama
Counties of Iowa. Support services fall into three categories – counseling,
education and advocacy.
History:
The Multiple Sclerosis Service League was founded
in 1980 by a group of people who had multiple sclerosis,
their families and concerned members of the community, who
felt there was a need for a local organization with the purpose
of assisting and supporting people with the many and complex
challenges of life with multiple sclerosis. At that time
the Multiple Sclerosis Service League became an affiliated
agency of Exceptional Persons, Inc. of Waterloo, Iowa, a
non-profit human service agency which provides a range of
services for people with mental retardation, developmental
disabilities and chronic mental illness. This affiliation
makes it possible for the Multiple Sclerosis Service League
to hire qualified counseling staff as well
as share the cost of administration, human resources, clerical
staff, office space and equipment – thus keeping operational
costs low and allowing the Multiple Sclerosis Service League
to use its resources to provide services. |
